Your reputation on the web - Google gives you a hand

John Jantz has a post about the new release of Google's tool "Me on the Web" over on his blog Duct Tape Marketing.  This is a must for professionals and businesses.  I have been encouraging clients and friends to leverage the many tools that Google offers to help understand what is happening in their world, what is being said about them, and how the web based world views them.

Also, if you are not reading this article through your Google Reader take a minute and set this up.  We can be your first news feed - RSS.  While there take a minute to select some other sites that have good information.  If you are a business owner add John's site which is linked above.

Google Apps adds additional security for data access on mobile devices.

Google continues of expand the capabilities of its hosted applications for business and enterprise users.  Now administrators whose organizations use the premier versions of Google apps have a two-factor authentication available for their use.  This step allows users to install an app on their mobile device that sends a verification code after a successful password entry by the user.

So even if a user’s password is stolen their data cannot be accessed.  While this may seem like an unnecessary step it is likely to dramatically expand the use of mobile devices for businesses managing secure information.

Leveraging SharePoint with Google Chrome

The use of SharePoint to leverage business efficiency and to automate business process is rapidly expanding.  This software has been designed to run most effectively with Internet Explorer and with Microsoft operating systems.  But at PerSyst Consulting we have clients who utilize every imaginable and sometime complex IT environments.  Giving those clients the ability to leverage SharePoint within their preferred IT environment is increasingly getting easier.

With the ability to operate SharePoint from within FireFox and Safari in both the PC and Mac environments the last gaping hole to be filled was Google’s hugely popular Chrome.  But true to Google’s commitment of encouraging developers to build apps around its browser IEtab is now available.

This application extension opens an Internet Explorer window within Chrome and gives you most of the speed and functionality you would experience running the full IE on your machine. Keep an eye on Google’s apps as they are rapidly releasing solutions targeted directly at improving business effectiveness.
